Fundamentals of Equity, Diversity & Inclusion - July 8, 2020

CONTINUING EDUCATION: This workshop is certified by NASW Wisconsin Chapter and satisfies Continuing Education requirements set by State of Wisconsin Department of Safety and Professional Services. Participants practicing as licensed Counselors, Social Workers and Therapists will receive 4 Continuing Education Hours (CEUs) or .4 Continuing Education Units (CEUs) upon completion of the course.

COURSE SUMMARY: This course will examine the core concepts of EDI (Equity, Diversity and Inclusion) and build cultural competency skills to effectively work with diverse populations in a professional environment. Participants will learn how to self-assess implicit biases and develop methods to improve competency. The facilitation approach utilizes interactive dialogue, focused discussions, applied-practice exercises, and small group work (may be impacted by virtual technology limitations).

COURSE SUMMARY: This course examines how one’s culture impacts decision making in various treatment settings. Providers are constantly faced with ethical choices resulting in ambiguous outcomes and difficult decisions that may be morally confusing. Understanding cultural concepts enables providers to bridge the difference between themselves and diverse populations. Participants will acquire a better understanding of the ethical decision-making process when cross-cultural conflicts occur while addressing implications of unconscious biases.

Building Cultural Competence- Understanding the LGBTQIA+ Culture - August 26, 2020

LOCATION: Virtual

TIME: 10:00 am - 12:30 pm

CONTINUING EDUCATION: This workshop is certified by NASW Wisconsin Chapter and satisfies Continuing Education requirements set by State of Wisconsin Department of Safety and Professional Services. Participants practicing as licensed Counselors, Social Workers and Therapists will receive 2.5 Continuing Education Hours (CEUs) or .25 Continuing Education Units (CEUs) upon completion of the course.

COURSE SUMMARY: What is PRIDE? What contributions have LGBTQIA+ people made to our world? What defines the culture? This webinar will develop and enrich your knowledge of the LGBTQ+ culture, community and share the history of the struggles faced. Do you know and understand the history of the Gay Rights Movement? What states allow for legal same-gender marriage? What does the ‘+’ or the ‘Q’ in the title of this training mean? Explore the history and development of the LGBTQ+ culture. We will examine its social movements and advocacy from a historical lens, beginning in the 19th century to present day. Increase your knowledge and develop cultural competence with people of the community and experience a culture and history often untold.
